Admissions Criteria

  • IQ of 55 or above
  • Axis I psychiatric diagnosis
  • Ages 13 to 17
  • The child is unmanageable in a less restrictive environment and requires the structure of a secure residential treatment program.
  • The child has symptoms and/or behavioral manifestations of mental or emotional illness that significantly interfere with age-appropriate social, educational or family functioning.
  • The child must be medically stable.
  • The child has been screened and approved by the agency coordinating the placement.
  • The child is not actively suicidal, homicidal or psychotic.

Exclusion Criteria

  • Primary diagnosis of conduct disorder
  • Primary diagnosis of reactive attachment disorder
  • IQ below 55
  • child requires sex offender treatment
  • Severe aggression
  • Chronic self-harmful behavior resulting in more than two psychiatric hospitalizations within the year prior to admission
  • Principal medical diagnoses, rather than psychiatric, or present with medical complications outside the scope of care offered in a Treatment Center
  • Non-ambulatory
  • Unable to perform activities of daily living
  • Unable to communicate by any means
  • Does not have an Axis 1 psychiatric diagnosis
  • Demonstrates complete unwillingness to participate in the treatment program
  • Needs that cannot be safely managed in the current milieu with available resources in the judgment of the admitting psychiatrist in consultation with the admissions review board
